Holiday and Peak Season Pet Boarding
Holiday weeks are some of the busiest boarding times at The PawPlex, and space can fill faster than people expect.
If you already know you will be traveling around a holiday, it is better to request your dog’s stay early rather than wait until your plans are completely final.
Here is what to know about holiday boarding, when to request a spot, and how to help your dog have an easier stay.
Book earlier during busy weeks
For holiday and peak-season boarding, try to request your stay about three to four weeks ahead when possible.
Booking early gives you the best chance of getting the accommodation you prefer. Waiting longer does not always mean there will be no space, but your options may be more limited.
If your dates are still a little flexible, you can still submit the request. It is usually easier to adjust dates later than to find boarding space once a busy holiday week is close.
Remember that submitting a reservation request does not confirm the stay. Our team still needs to review availability and confirm the reservation with you.
If your trip is getting close and you have not received confirmation, call the front desk rather than assuming the spot is reserved.
What changes during peak season
There is no special holiday deposit, no minimum-night requirement, and no separate holiday drop-off or pickup window. Clients pay at pickup.
Daycare does not have a formal holiday blackout period either. However, on very busy boarding dates, daycare space may be limited. If that happens, The PawPlex will let clients know.
Your dog’s normal care routine still continues during the stay. Dogs who are approved for group play rotate through supervised play based on their group and temperament, meals are served according to their instructions, and boarding dogs settle into their overnight accommodations at the end of the day.
If this is your dog’s first boarding stay
A busy holiday week is not always the easiest time for a dog to experience boarding for the first time.
There are more dogs in the building, the routine is new, and your dog is also adjusting to being away from home.
If you have enough time before your trip, bring your dog for daycare first. A few daycare visits can help them become familiar with the building, the team, the sounds, and the routine.
If possible, you can also schedule a single practice night before the longer stay.
The goal is simple. When the real trip comes around, your dog is returning to a place they already know instead of experiencing everything for the first time at once.
What to pack
- Your dog’s regular food, pre-portioned and clearly labeled, with a little extra in case your return is delayed. Avoid changing foods right before the stay.
- Medications in their original containers with clear written dosing instructions. Bring enough for the full stay, plus a little extra.
- Something familiar from home if your dog is allowed to have it during the stay.
- Current phone numbers and a local emergency contact who can be reached if you are unavailable.
If you will be traveling somewhere you may be difficult to reach, such as overseas or on a cruise, make sure the emergency contact you provide can actually answer and make decisions if needed.
Changing or canceling a holiday stay
There is no cancellation fee for holiday boarding and no holiday deposit to refund. Clients pay at pickup.
Plans still change, and that is okay. If you need to cancel or adjust your dates, let us know as soon as you can.
During busy periods, that space may be able to go to another family that is waiting for boarding.
Adding transportation
If you would like to use Tail Waggin’ Transit with your boarding reservation, include it when you submit your request.
Holiday routes can also get busy, so transportation is easier to arrange when the team knows about it early rather than adding it right before your trip.
Reserve your dates
If you already know your travel dates, submit your boarding request as early as you can.
If your dog has never stayed with us before, let us know. We can help make sure vaccination records, the temperament meet and greet, and any practice visits are handled before the trip.
Remember, submitting the form starts the reservation process. Your holiday stay is not confirmed until The PawPlex team confirms it with you.
